Type Locality and Naming

The type section is at Guqin in Goyü district, Zayü County, eastern Xizang. The Goyü Fm was named by Chen Ting'en (1986a).

Synonym: (古玉组); Goyü Fm


Lithology and Thickness

The formation is dominated by purple medium-bedded banded argillaceous limestone, with shrinkage lamination and syngenetic breccia structures. In the type area, the Goyü Fm is 25 m thick.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It rests conformably on the dark gray argillaceous limestone of the Zayu Fm

Upper contact

It is conformably overlain by an undated sequence of dolomite and dolomitic limestone without any fossils.

Regional extent

The Goyü Fm is exposed in Guqin and Haitong.

Fossils

The Goyü Fm yields Nautiloids Discoceras sp., Trocholites depressus, Richardsonoceras asiaticum, Michelinoceras paraclongatum and Sinoceras sp. At Haitong area, this unit also yields Lituites sp.
